Desulfation
At times during a normal charge cycle, lead sulfate crystals will form on battery plates due to lead sulfate deposits from previous charges; normally these dissolve during recharge cycles. Discharge
A battery can be considered empty when its discharge rate (C-rate) and end-of-discharge voltage reach their respective threshold values; this state of charge is known as its nominal capacity or CN; testing against these parameters constitutes the standard capacity test. A battery may also reach physical fullness; however, this state is impractical due to irreversible damage being done to its active masses during charging as well as lead sulfate crystal formation over extended periods which cannot be eliminated with regular charging procedures.
